[Reminder] New default CPU platform for Compute Engine Zones from April 19
Hello Google Compute Engine Customer,
We previously sent you an email stating that starting April 5, 2019, we will be upgrading the default CPU platform in seven Google Compute Engine zones to newer generation CPU platforms. We are writing to let you know that this change will now take place from April 19, 2019.
What do I need to know?
Starting on April 19, 2019:
All newly created VMs in these zones configured withminCpuPlatform=”automatic”, and
Existing VMs in these zones configured withminCpuPlatform=”automatic”that are stopped and then restarted will default to the following new CPU platform:
Note: The CPU platform of the following instances won’t change:
Running instances
Running instances that are live migrated
Instances that are rebooted from inside the guest
Instances that are reset via the Compute Engine API
Instances that crash and are automatically restarted.
What do I need to do?
Since the newer generation CPU platforms are 100% backward compatible with the older generations in terms of instruction sets and supported features, this should not be a breaking change.
If your VM instances require a specific CPU platform that is different from the new default CPU platform, you can specify a minimum CPU platform for those instancesand Compute Engine will give you the desired CPU platform if it is available. Please refer to ‘how selecting minimum CPU platform works‘ for more information.
Your projects listed below are running VMs in one or more of these zones and may be affected by this change:
Please refer to the Regions and Zones documentation to look at which CPU platforms are supported in which zone.
